Who Must Pay Zakat?

  • ✓ Muslim who has reached puberty and is of sound mind
  • ✓ Owns wealth above Nisab threshold (approximately 87.48 grams of gold)
  • ✓ The wealth has been held for one complete lunar year
  • ✓ Free from personal debts

Eight Categories of Zakat Recipients

  1. The Poor (Al-Fuqara) – Those with absolutely no means
  2. The Needy (Al-Masakin) – Those with insufficient means
  3. Zakat Administrators – Those managing Zakat distribution
  4. Those Whose Hearts are to be Reconciled – For reconciliation and peace
  5. Those in Bondage – To free enslaved persons
  6. The Debt-Ridden – To relieve those burdened by debt
  7. In the Cause of Allah – For Islamic causes and community benefit
  8. The Wayfarer – To help travelers in need

JWF Zakat Distribution Focus Areas:

  • Widows and orphans in extreme poverty
  • Medical treatment for the poor and uninsured
  • Educational assistance for deserving students
  • Debt relief for eligible individuals and families
  • Basic necessities for those in extreme need

Simple Calculation:

Zakat = 2.5% of total zakatable assets

Example: If you have PKR 500,000 in savings, your Zakat = 2.5% × 500,000 = PKR 12,500
